As we saw in the last chapter, a spiritual intention is built on a solid material intention.
Marie knew this if she wanted to change, she would have to make an effort, so she set up a practical program that would help her put herself in others’ shoes. She started to read newspaper and appreciate the merits of the arguments on both sides of an issue. She discussed her own opinion on the issues that she read about in the papers with friends and acquaintances.
She read books on parenting and on relationships in order to improve her communication skills so that she could check out with other people what they were thinking and feeling. She made a habit of asking, friends advice about different everyday situations and carefully weigh the evidence to see which advice made the most sense.

P.S. Don’t get me wrong, this is not about preachin’. You may want to grow more like a sapling ’till its roots take hold of the soil and it grows and grows and grows to achieve heights unimagined.
